Fouf - Made In Bali

What’s the story? I lived on the Island in my late 20s and was fascinated with the creativity of the local craftspeople as I explored the island’s traditions and history. With a jewellery background, I started importing handmade Sterling Silver and shell pieces to the UK. I was rather taken with the beautiful bright colours and patterns involving the Batik printing process. My pieces are manufactured using the very best fabrics - RK3 Rayon, chiffon, cotton, silk, and special dye colours that look great and really last. Perfect for holidays and summer days.

Batik - ‘a cloth with little dots’

An image is created on the fabric though the use of a dye-resist (wax) which is hand painted or copper stamped. The wax prevents the dye from penetrating the covered areas of the fabric. The fabric is then dipped in dye baths and repeated a number of times depending on the numbers of dyes involved. After the last dyeing, the fabric is hung up to dry and then the wax is removed.
During the process, the wax cracks and lets small quantities of dye through, adding an unexpected and interesting effect to any design. Due to the nature of the dye process, each piece is individual and differences in patterns and colours are to be expected and appreciated. Each of my dresses is really one of a kind as every piece of material is unique.
