The wax prevents the dye from penetrating the covered areas of the fabric. The fabric is then dipped in dye baths and repeated a number of times depending on the numbers of dyes involved. After the last dyeing, the fabric is hung up to dry and then the wax is removed. During the process, the wax cracks and lets small quantities of dye through, adding an unexpected and interesting effect to any design. Due to the nature of the dye process, each piece is individual and differences in patterns and colours are to be expected and appreciated.
